TP PKK Binjai Undergoes Provincial-Level UP2K Competition Evaluation

BINJAI — The Family Welfare Movement Team (TP PKK) of Binjai City has officially taken part in the Provincial-Level UP2K (Income-Generating Business Efforts) Competition Evaluation organized by the North Sumatra Provincial PKK Team.

The evaluation process serves as a benchmark for assessing the implementation and sustainability of empowerment programs managed by women-led micro-enterprises across Binjai. The evaluation team was warmly welcomed by local officials, community leaders, and PKK management, who presented various flagship products developed by local households.

Through this competition, TP PKK Binjai aims to demonstrate how family-level micro-businesses can drive economic resilience while systematically expanding market access for local products.

During the evaluation session, the provincial assessment team reviewed operational administration, business management practices, and product quality presented by local UP2K units. The showcased items ranged from traditional processed foods and home crafts to creative eco-friendly products.

The leadership of TP PKK Binjai expressed strong optimism that the program would not only achieve high ratings in the provincial evaluation but also continue to serve as a practical platform for improving family welfare throughout the city.

“This evaluation is more than just a competition; it is a strategic momentum to refine our empowerment methods, strengthen business management among mothers, and boost the local household economy,” noted a local PKK representative during the event.

The evaluation also emphasized the importance of mentorship, access to micro-financing, and financial literacy for homemakers entering the business sector.

Local organizers highlighted that sustained guidance from regional government agencies (OPD) has allowed these small business groups to improve product packaging, maintain hygienic standards, and adopt digital marketing tools to reach broader consumer bases beyond Binjai.

The UP2K (Usaha Peningkatan Pendapatan Keluarga) initiative is one of the key working programs within the national PKK framework (specifically under Pokja II). Designed to bridge household economics and formal entrepreneurship, UP2K empowers homemakers to generate supplemental income by utilizing local resources. By transforming traditional skills into marketable products, the program directly contributes to poverty reduction and local economic growth at the sub-district (kelurahan) level.

The success of UP2K programs in North Sumatra relies heavily on cross-sector collaboration between local PKK cadres, the Department of Cooperatives & SMEs, and local trade agencies. In Binjai City, this synergy has facilitated capital access, skill workshops, and exhibition spaces for micro-entrepreneurs. Sustained provincial evaluations ensure that these grassroots business networks remain structured, competitive, and adaptable to shifting consumer demands.
