Senator M. Nuh Host 4 Pillars Socialization with Local Fishermen, Boosting Maritime Spirit Within National Framework

MEDAN – Member of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) representing the North Sumatra region, K.H. Muhammad Nuh, held a key national civic outreach (Sosialisasi 4 Pilar Kebangsaan) tailored specifically for local fishermen and coastal communities in North Sumatra on September 14, 2026.

The session was designed to boost maritime spirit and reinforce the core values of national unity among traditional fishermen, who play a pivotal role as guardians of Indonesia’s maritime borders and coastal food security.

During his address, Senator M. Nuh emphasized that Indonesia’s maritime domain is not merely an economic resource, but an integral part of the nation’s sovereignty and collective identity. He highlighted that coastal communities must embody the principles of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution (UUD 1945), the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) in their everyday lives.

“Fishermen are on the frontline of our vast waters. By living out the Four Pillars of the Nation, our coastal communities strengthen not only their economic resilience but also safeguard the maritime sovereignty of Indonesia,” Senator M. Nuh declared during the socialization event.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from local fishermen groups, who engaged in dialogue regarding the daily challenges faced in coastal areas. Discussions touched upon local mutual aid (gotong royong), economic welfare, environmental sustainability, and regional security for traditional fishing vessels operating in coastal territories.

To offer broader context on Senator M. Nuh’s civic outreach series and the strategic role of coastal communities in North Sumatra, here are key supplementary insights:

Coastal areas in North Sumatra—such as Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, and Langkat—border key international shipping lanes in the Malacca Strait. Empowering local fishermen through civic awareness helps build a grassroots security network that reports territorial intrusions, illegal fishing, and maritime accidents to national authorities.

Beyond national ideology, Senator M. Nuh’s ongoing MPR RI outreach programs regularly advocate for equitable welfare policies for traditional fishermen. This includes pushing for better access to subsidized fuel, upgraded fishing gear, coastal infrastructure improvements, and micro-financing support to cushion the impact of extreme weather seasons on coastal livelihoods.
